PayPal Woes

I am hating PayPal right now. They make customer service the most difficult thing ever and I've never come across a company which makes it so DIFFICULT.

Ok, so this is my dilemma. I got an email from PayPal (it was legit*) saying they thought they'd detected third party useage in my account and wanted me to verify it (or otherwise). So I decide to log in to check it out, and decide I want to close down my PayPal account because it's linked to my old bank account which is since closed, and I normally use Andre's PayPal account now anyway.

So I go to PayPal, armed with the incident number they  have given me. Once I log on, I am faced with an ID verification question.

I need to give them my account number in full to verify my identity. Ok, I can do that. I find an old statement  from my old bank account, put the number into the website, and click Ok.

Error.

Hmm, ok. Maybe it doesn't need the 06 at the beginning. Try again.

Error.

Hmm. Perhaps it does need that space in there that my statement has. Put a space in, try again.

Error.

Try it with the spaces with the 06.

Error.

Right. Let's contact PayPal and get this sorted. Go to the help centre. Choose the topic I need help with. Their online bot is obviously no help, so I want to email them. I click on the email option. It again asks me what topic I need help with. I plug that in. It loads up a new page.

It wants my account number as verification before proceeding any further.

RAGE.

Ok, surely there must be someway of contacting PayPal outside of your account. So I Google 'contact Paypal'. One of the first hits is about contacting PayPal if you can't log into your account. Ok, this must be good, so I click on it.

It takes me to the PayPal log in page. Fortunately it has an option for contacting them if you can't log in. I click on it. "If you want to call us, click here". I Click Here. It gives me an American number.

I hate you, PayPal.

I specifically type in the Australian PayPal website, and go through the same steps to get to their contact-us-if-you-can't-log-in page.

I finally get an Australian number.

*Sigh* Ok, let's try this. You'll know how it goes.

(* The email did not ask me to click on anything and lacked the minor spelling/grammatical/syntax mistakes spam emails often have. I had to manually go to the PayPal website myself.)
